Marilyn Monroe and her bosom companions
Featuring an all-star cast of Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe, Billy Wilder’s timeless screwball comedy Some Like it Hot is set in Prohibition-era Chicago, where a couple of struggling musicians are in the wrong place at the wrong time when they witness the Valentines Day Massacre.
Finding themselves on the run from the mob, they accept a new gig out of town as part of an all-girl jazz troupe and rock up on the train dragged up and raring to go.
“I never read a better comedy script,” said Lemmon. “It was flawless.”
Wilder said there were days when Monroe never missed a line, but it’s the other days that have passed into legend. When the actress had to walk into a room and say “Where’s the bourbon?”, it took 53 takes, even after the line was written in every drawer of the dresser she had to look in.
Films at the Goods Shed are projected on to a six-metre (19 feet 8 inches) wide screen, with sound provided by a multipoint Dolby system. The 180 seats are purpose-made for auditorium use and are tiered, giving everyone a comfortable and unobstructed view of the screen.
We provide a bar at most screenings, offering alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Doors open 30 minutes before each screening.
