Mary Griese presents Slightly Sheepish
12 December 2018 | 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until 2 March 2019
Mary Griese is a watercolour artist specialising in farm livestock.
Alongside sheep-farming with her young family on a remote Welsh hill farm, she painted pictures of sheep, sheepdogs, cattle and horses. In 1987 she formed her art business ‘Slightly Sheepish’.
For over thirty years she’s been selling her work at agricultural shows and sheepdog trials: original paintings, prints, greetings cards, mugs and jigsaws. She has illustrated children’s books and published her own picture book: An Alphabet of Farm Animals.
Mary was close friends with Sue Stoner, who worked passionately on the Goods Shed project. Sue was determined to have a Slightly Sheepish exhibition here. This is held in her honour.
She has held exhibitions in Wales, Gloucestershire and Somerset. The farming community and many societies commission her paintings of prize livestock. These include The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, British Horse Society, Welsh Pony and Cob Society and various cattle societies.
Her other love is writing: novels, short stories and articles. She has an MA in creative writing from Bath Spa University and two ‘rural’ novels doing the rounds of publishers with an agent.
