Polar Landscapes, Seascapes, Penguins and Seals

Most of the images (including all from Antarctica), were shot during the period 1971 to 1974, mostly either on 35 mm colour transparency, or black and white 35 mm and 2-1/4” square negative film. Included also are a couple from Spitsbergen, Norway, from 1984. They have all been enlarged onto stretched canvas in various sizes.
The thousand or so images shot during those years have languished in transparency and negative files for much of the time since, but have recently been digitised, and some of these images are exhibited here.
The exhibition runs from Wednesday 21st September through to and including Sunday 30th October 2022. Opening times are 10-4pm Wednesdays through Sundays. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays and occasionally for other events in the main hall – we recommend you call first if travelling a distance to avoid disappointment.
Roger Daynes
Tetbury Resident for many years Roger Daynes, had the privilege of working as a meteorologist with British Antarctic Survey from late 1971 to early 1974, and spent most of the two and a half year period in Antarctica on their base at Halley Bay, on the Caird Coast shelf ice of the Weddell Sea.
On the way to Halley, he was lucky to have travelled by sea, which allowed visits to other British Antarctic Survey bases on the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula and also South Georgia, and Signy Island in the South Orkney Islands.
At the end of the period, he worked on South Georgia for several weeks.
