The talented acoustic folk-blues-rock duo of David John Lloyd, twice guitarist of the year finalist in ‘Guitarist’ magazine’, and accomplished guitarist and vocalist Chris Ongers offer a repertoire including Stereophonics, Paul Weller, The Foo Fighters, Prince and their own compositions.
From pubs to theatres and concert halls they have gained a great reputation for great musicianship and a relaxed rapport with the audience.
They have supported world class acts including the legendary country guitarist Albert Lee, and blues maestro Aynsley Lister.
About:
David John Lloyd is a songwriter, guitarist, actor, and children’s entertainer. From an early age he has had a guitar in his hand performing in folk bands, Ravenstone and Pendragon and blues band, Blues Train. Heavily influenced by the likes of John Martyn, John Renbourn, Bert Yansch, Pierre Bensusan and Martin Simpson, he has performed solo gigs supporting world class acts such as Aynsley Lister, Ben Waters, Connie Lush, and Buddy Whittington playing his own songs to appreciative audiences. He was twice finalist of ‘Acoustic Guitarist of The Year’ competition run by The Guitarist Magazine. He left the popular Steamroller blues rock band in 2015 to form Hambling and Lloyd, www.hamblingandlloyd.co.uk a great Van Morrison duo and to form Union of Strings with
Chris Ongers formed his first band at school at the age of 12. An early starter! Like David, he enjoys an eclectic mix of music including country, folk, jazz, Americana and some heavy metal. Influenced by Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac AC/DC, Crowded House, Bowie, Prince, Cream, Free, Bad Co, Led Zeppelin, The Stones…(the list goes on), he has always been a highly prized lead guitarist of the many bands he’s been in.
Apart from UOS he is currently lead guitarist in classic rock and blues band ‘SloJin’.
David always knew of Chris’s great guitar playing but was totally blown away by Chris’s unfeatured vocals, compositions and recording expertise. This led to the formation of Union of Strings, 2 acoustic guitars showcasing Chris’s great talents as a vocalist, acoustic guitarist, and songwriter.
