Painting by Numbers with David Wilson

Free admission

Drawing on his earlier experience as an architect and software developer, David uses computers to create digital pictures, working with shapes, geometric transformations, materials and lighting. Though his pictures take the form of conventional, framed prints, all elements of the composition are modelled in three dimensions.

The exhibition runs from Wednesday 3rd April through to and including Sunday 12th May 2024.   Opening times are 10-4pm Wednesdays through Sundays. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays and occasionally for other events in the main hall – we recommend you call first if travelling a distance to avoid disappointment.

David’s commitment to the medium is driven by a fascination with the mathematical patterns that lie at the heart of the natural world and by the belief that, despite their formal method of construction, such images might be capable of evoking a direct emotional response.

Starting with the challenge of modelling flowers and other natural objects, his first pieces were inspired by traditional Spanish and Dutch still-life painting. Recently he has found himself adopting a more relaxed approach to composition as well as starting to explore spaces that exist only in the imagination.

Pictures are offered as monoprints, authenticated by means of unique serial numbers.
