Merry Illuminations – Alison Merry

Free admission

Inspired by the vibrancy of Medieval Art, Alison Merry has developed a painting style that puts a medieval “spin” on to subjects for the purpose of storytelling and illustration.  Her paintings are unashamedly pastiches but with an added “twist” of her own invention to make the images original and contemporary

The exhibition runs from Wednesday 15th February 2023 through to and including Sunday 26th March 2023.   Opening times are 10-4pm Wednesdays through Sundays. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays and occasionally for other events in the main hall – we recommend you call first if travelling a distance to avoid disappointment.

About Alison Merry

“My working background has been in archaeology and history. I have been involved in archaeological excavation and draughtsmanship, research, museum curatorship and local history writing.

AlisonInspired originally and specifically by the richness and vibrancy of Medieval art, I have developed a painting style of my own that puts a medieval ‘spin’ on to my subjects for the purpose of storytelling and illustration. My paintings are unashamedly pastiches that draw on historic styles but with the added ‘twist’ of my own invention that makes the images original and contemporary.

I live and work in Bisley, Gloucestershire. It is a great community, surrounded by glorious countryside and scenery, with beautiful stone buildings, a rich and diverse history and a wealth of unique local custom and folklore from which to draw inspiration.”
