British rare breeds: Why protect them?
At a crucial time in agricultural development, should we be focusing on protecting our rare breeds? What have they done for us throughout history, why are they significant and most importantly – how can we help them?
Sophia Ashe graduated from the Royal Agricultural University in 2019 with a BSc (Hons) in Agriculture. She has a particular interest in genetic, climate and global food production systems and this has led her to work in various countries.
Above all this is her special interest in rare breeds. Working with different breeds of sheep, cattle and pigs broadened her appreciation for them and she sees the fight for their survival a cause worth snouting about!
