Piers Brendon – Churchill’s Bestiary – Winston Churchill’s life through animals
For September’s Shed Talk, Dr Piers Brendon will talk about Winston Churchill and his conflicting feelings for and involvement with all kinds of animals, as an owner of many pets while yet a keen hunter of ‘game’. His own writings were peppered with references to various animals as he described political friends or foes.
Writer, journalist, television consultant, script writer, historian and biographer, Piers Brendon is a fellow of Churchill College Cambridge and formerly a keeper of the Churchill Archives. He has written many books including studies of Victorians, Edwardians, various 20th century Elizabethans, an American president, the start of tourism, Cornish ballads and automobiles.
